Arrive Colombo β Pinnawala β Kitulgala (Drive)
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by our driver who will transfer you directly to Negombo, approximately 45 minutes away. From Negombo, you will proceed to Kitulgala, with a stop en route at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, located northwest of Kegalle. Established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Wildlife Department on a 25-acre coconut property along the Maha Oya River, the orphanage cares for orphaned elephants found in Sri Lanka’s jungles. In 1978, it was taken over by the National Zoological Gardens, launching a captive breeding program in 1982 that has since bred over 20 elephants. The orphanage aims to provide a simulated natural habitat for these elephants, who are bathed in the river twice daily, and the youngest are bottle-fed by mahouts and volunteers.
After observing the elephants bathing, continue your journey to Kitulgala where you will check in at your pre-booked hotel. Your Local Tour Manager will welcome you and brief you on the upcoming itinerary.

Enjoy an exhilarating session of white water rafting on the Kelani River. White water rafting is a thrilling recreational activity that doesn’t require exceptional physical strength but rather an average level of fitness and a strong spirit. Kitulgala, nestled along a picturesque stretch of the Kelani River, offers rapids that cascade over a rocky riverbed, surrounded by tall bamboo trees.
One of the notable spots along the river is a calm stretch between two rocky outcrops, known for its role as a movie location where a railway bridge was constructed. Here, the river flows silently, deep and slow. The boulder-strewn section of the Kelani River at Kitulgala provides an ideal setting for white water rafting, catering to both first-time rafters and seasoned experts alike.
Enjoy the stunning tropical scenery as you embark on this adrenaline-filled adventure.

Nuwara Eliya has a rich colonial history, reportedly founded by British officers who were lost while elephant hunting. It later became a favored destination for British pastimes like golf, fox hunting, and polo under the patronage of Governor Sir Edward Barnes, who established it as a health resort of international renown.
The city also holds archaeological significance, with prehistoric human remains discovered in its vicinity. Today, Nuwara Eliya retains its colonial charm, with new hotels often designed to reflect this era. Sri Lanka is a leading producer of premium tea, and Nuwara Eliya has been central to the country’s tea industry since the mid-19th century.
