JAIPUR – The Pink City
Jaipur is known as the “Pink City” because, in 1876, Maharaja Ram Singh had most of the buildings painted pink—the colour of hospitality—in preparation for a visit by Britain’s Queen Victoria. Today, the city is famous for its bazaars, forts, temples, palaces, and animal reserves. Tourism, gemstone cutting, jewellery manufacturing, and information technology all contribute to the city’s economic success. The best time to visit Jaipur is between November and March. It is a renowned tourist attraction in India, being part of the West Golden Triangle tourist circuit that includes Delhi and Agra. The city is a gateway to major tourist spots in Rajasthan, including Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Udaipur, Kota, and Mount Abu. It has two world heritage sites: Amber Fort and the observatory (Jantar Mantar).
How to reach Jaipur
By Air – The airport includes two passenger terminals and one air cargo terminal. The airport’s Terminal 1 handles freight operations. Terminal 2 handles both domestic and international planes. It can hold 14 aeroplanes and handle around 1000 passengers at once.
Terminal 2 is both International & domestic – All international airlines operating through this terminal such as Air Arabia, Air India, Etihad, Indigo, and Oman Air. Domestic airlines operating through T2 are Air India, GoAir, Indigo and SpiceJet.

By Train – Jaipur Junction is the main railway station in Jaipur. This station serves as the headquarters of the Jaipur Railway division and the Northwestern railway zone of the Indian railways.
By Road – Sindhi Camp is the interstate bus terminal in Jaipur. It is located along the station road. It is easily accessible to reach by Volvo buses.
Fairs & Festivals of Jaipur
- Elephant Festival– This is a popular festival celebrated every year, a day before the Holi festival. Elephants symbolize royalty according to the traditions of Rajasthan. Elephants are nicely groomed, dressed in jewels, brocade scarves, jhools, and bright colours for the festival. Intricate traditional Indian motifs are painted on their bodies. Elephants have played a significant role in Indian culture since ancient times. Ganesha, the elephant-headed god who is considered to be the remover of obstacles and the most powerful of all gods, is revered and worshipped across India. They are also an essential part of religious rituals such as weddings, processions, and so forth, and they were also used on the battlefield. Everyone is welcome to visit the event grounds. However, distinct vendors may charge varying fees for activities and entertainment aspects. The celebration takes place on a full moon night.

- Teej Festival– This festival is dedicated to celebrating the holy union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is a three-day long festival, in which women fast in the name of Lord Shiva for the long and prosperous life of their husbands. This festival is celebrated by women and is mostly celebrated in north India. It is celebrated in three forms: Hariyali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej.

- Kite Festival– The royal kite festival, also known as ‘Makar Sankranti’, is a celebration that takes place annually on 14th January. It is celebrated to mark the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign Capricorn from Sagittarius, symbolizing the end of winter and the beginning of summer. During Makar Sankranti, people fly colourful kites as a part of the celebration. Devotees even take a dip into the holy water of the Galtaji tank. People fly kites from the rooftop to enjoy the weather and the festival. Women prepare special dishes of “Til papdi” and “Ladoos” with sesame seeds and sugar.
- Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF)– This is an annual literary festival held in Jaipur in January. This five-day festival draws thousands of people from all around the country and around the world. Both national and foreign authors participate in reading and discussion sessions. The Jaipur Literature Festival features over 250 speakers and over 100 artists annually. It brings together a diverse mix of the world’s greatest writers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders, sportspeople, and entertainers on one stage to champion the freedom to express and engage in thoughtful debate and dialogue.

- Dhulandi Festival– Dhulandi marks the second day of the Holi festival. It celebrates the start of spring and commemorates the triumph of virtue over evil and communal bonding via colourful activities such as Gulal smearing and drinks such as bhang, inspired by Lord Krishna and Radha’s beautiful love stories. It commemorates the end of the two-day Holi festival.

AMBER FORT: The Amer Fort, also known as Amber Fort, is in Amer, Rajasthan, India. Amer Fort is recognized for its artistic characteristics. GALTA JI TEMPLE: Galta Ji is a historic Hindu pilgrimage located around 10 kilometers from Jaipur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The site comprises of a group of temples carved into a narrow gap in the hills that encircle Jaipur. A natural spring originates high on the hill and runs downward, filling a succession of sacred kunds (water pools) where pilgrims can bathe.
